Dear SAINTS Students and Parents:
The
2008/2009 Program of Studies
has been compiled to assist you in your selection of
courses for the 2007-2008 academic year. Please note
the addition of several new elective classes being
offered.
Please review carefully the contents of this
catalog. Each course offered by Saint Raphael
Academy is described so you will be familiar with
the content and expectations of the course. Each
course is assigned an ability grouping-from Advanced
Placement to Basic Level courses-in order to provide
for each student's academic abilities. As you
consider your program of studies for next year, keep
in mind the requirements for graduation outlined in
this catalog and the worthy goal of creating a
challenging academic program. In a college
preparatory environment such as SAINTS, it is in the
student's best interest to choose a program of study
which maximizes his or her ability to learn.
Academic departments have completed student lists
for the purpose of appropriate level placement.
Soon, the Guidance Department will schedule
individual student conferences to assist students in
planning course selections. Parental approval of the
program of study for their son or daughter will take
place before the close of the academic year.
It is particularly important for current juniors and
some sophomores to talk to their guidance counselors
regarding required or elective courses which are
important for college admission and preparation.
Subject teachers may also be helpful in this regard.
You will receive more information about the
scheduling process in the next few weeks. It is very
important to follow the course selection process as
described. Students should realize that, while every
effort is made to accommodate student elective
choices, enrollment level in specific courses,
personnel changes, or other factors might affect a
student's schedule. Also, it is often impossible to
change one's schedule after the master schedule has
been completed. In general, once course lists have
been distributed, course and/or level changes are to
be discouraged since they are often disruptive to
learning.
Thank you for your careful attention to this process
of course selection. If there are any concerns about
this booklet or the process in general, I am always
available for assistance.
Sincerely,
Michael Sweeney
