St. Raphael Academy

This year students will read and be tested in three areas. Book #1 will be reviewed in English classes, #2 will be reviewed in History, and #3 will be reviewed in Religion classes. (Note: Students in 12 – AP and A level classes must read all books assigned in English as well as the books assigned from History and Religion.)

(This book will be given to students as part of the Saints Readiness Program)

  

Book #2

 The second book is the student’s choice following the guidelines below:

• The book should be age and subject appropriate.
• Fiction or non-fiction
• It should be over 150 pages.
• It should be new to the student and not something read before.
• Choose a book that is not available in a movie or summary form( Cliff’s Notes, Sparknotes, etc)
• Complete a portfolio that includes 1 and 2. Choose one from the remaining three.


1. Design an original cover for your portfolio that illustrates your book choice. (required)

2. List 20 vocabulary words from the book.

Define the words, write the sentence from the book where it is found , and indicate the page number. (required)

3. Describe at least three main characters in paragraphs of at least five sentences each..

4. Draw a map of the location of the story

5. Prepare a timeline, web, chart, or graphic organizer of the important events in the story.

Your portfolio will be due during the first week of classes. You will be graded on completeness, originality, and presentation. Neatness, spelling and grammar will count! Typing is preferred, but handwritten work will be accepted.
